The app that turns pocket money into a life skill, giving 15-17 year olds their first taste of real financial freedom, while keeping their parents in control and at ease.
Wise & D&AD New Blood
This was a live industry brief set by Wise in collaboration with D&AD New Blood Awards.
The Challenge: make Wise the essential travel companion for kids' first big adventure, by persuading their parents, not the kids themselves.

Understanding the landscape
The research phase was extensive, covering domain research, statistical data, competitive analysis and primary research through user interviews.
Domain and statistical research showed the shift towards digital pocket money and the growing need for financial literacy tools, highlighting the real risks of child financial harm and scams targeting young people online.
The abroad opportunity: Research confirmed that the 'abroad moment' eg: a school trip, family holiday or a gap year, is the biggest trigger for parents seeking a solution. Wise's real exchange rate and 160+ country coverage became the core product differentiator to design around

Two users.
One seamless experience.
THE DUAL JOURNEY
The most complex part of this project was designing two distinct but connected journeys. Both needed to feel complete and right for their intended user, whilst working together as one coherent product.
The main app feature which stands out from amongst the other banking apps available to 15-17 year olds is the 'Postcard' feature. It gives kids the ability to send a postcard updating their parents after a purchase, with parents & guardians also being able to request a postcard through their private chat once they receive a spending notification. This feature facilitates a more deeper and emotional connection between both users.

The entire solution was built within Wise's existing brand and design system. With not having full access to their assets and design system, I had to improvise, creating features from scratch to match their brand guidelines.
Separate user journeys were built for both parent/guardian and child.
I went through an extensive process of iterations, with elements like the home page layout, savings pages, adventure pages going through multiple versions before landing on the final design.
